If you like to dance and play jokes on strangers, here’s a perfect job for you. A lot of sports teams have a “mascot” – a person dressed up as some giant furry animal who makes the crowd laugh and cheer. There’s Chicago’s Benny the Bull, San Antonio’s Coyote, and Mr. Met (a big baseball head) for New York. This picture shows many of the mammals, birds, and even 3 insects who rev up the crowd. The question is, who dances the best?
Lace up: The “bovine” circle shows 5 mascots that are bulls. Can you count up to 5?
Jog: These mascot costumes can be 7 feet tall. How many feet taller than you is that? (You can round your height to the nearest foot)
Sprint: The “feline” circle has 19 big cats, including 4 tigers and 5 lions. How many other big cats must there be?
Hurdle: These mascots have to run, jump and dance for hours! If the game runs from 6:00 pm until 9:35 pm with only 20 minutes of breaks, how many hours and minutes are you on your feet?
High Jump: If you weigh 40 pounds and the dinosaur costume weighs 1 1/2 times as much as you, how much does it weigh?
Answers:
Lace up: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!
Jog: Different for everyone…subtract your height in feet from 7.
Sprint: 10 more big cats, since 19 – 5 – 4 = 19 – 9.
Hurdle: 3 hours 15 minutes.
High Jump: 60 pounds.
